Spices are extremely powerful health foods and they are central to the theme of “Food is medicine”. In many cultures, both in our time and in history, spices (and Herbs) were considered medicine. They were not simply added to dishes as a flavor enhancer like we do today. Spices are powerful cancer fighters, powerful anti inflammatories and they can help protect our brains from aging and disease. On top of that, they smell really good.

Most, if not all, of the spices here are very powerful antibacterial and anti inflammatory foods. They can help significantly reduce your risks of cancer as well as heart attacks, strokes and heart disease. Some can kill off fungal and bacterial infections. They can kill many food borne pathogens like Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria and Staph infections. Some spices have been shown to even kill the antibiotic resistant form of Staph known as MRSA (Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus).

Many spices are also blood thinners so be careful not to have too much especially if you are taking blood-thinning medicine like Aspirin.

There are 6 tastes to all the known foods in the world: Sweet, Sour, Salty, Bitter, Pungent and Astringent. Most spices tend to fall in the latter three categories which is exactly why they are such effective forms of medicine.
